Two people were killed and a third remains in critical condition after a shooting on South Bend’s northeast side.

Police were called around 11:25 p.m. Saturday, Sep. 19, to the 1300 block of Bissell Street for a report of a large fight. The call was later updated to report gunfire.

Officers found 20-year-old Alaya Maez, 18-year-old Javon Hopper and 22-year-old Geimisha Broadnax suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Maez and Hopper were pronounced dead. Broadnax remains in critical condition at the hospital.

The shooting came just hours after a woman and a South Bend police officer were wounded near Eddy Street Commons.
