A LaPorte County judge has decided against relocating the trial of a man charged with shooting a sheriff’s deputy.
Instead, jurors will be brought in from another county to hear the case against Sharod Grafton.
He’s accused of shooting Deputy Jon Samuelson in May and faces charges including attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and auto theft.
Grafton’s defense team argued that widespread publicity surrounding the shooting could prevent him from receiving a fair trial.
While the judge recognized that some news coverage could influence potential jurors, she determined moving the proceedings wasn’t necessary.
The county where jurors will be selected hasn’t been announced.
Grafton’s trial is set for November 9th.
