A man suspected of firing multiple shots from a home during a domestic disturbance response in Elkhart is in custody.

Elkhart police say officers located and detained the suspect Friday evening in the 500 block of West Ninth Street in Mishawaka.

He is expected to be booked into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges.

The investigation began around 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, when officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in the 800 block of Fremont Street.

Police say a man inside the home fired several shots from an upstairs window. One bullet struck an occupied car on the street. The driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

Several people, including a child, left the home while officers were there. Elkhart County Regional SWAT later cleared the residence and found no one else inside.

Mishawaka police and Indiana State Police assisted in the investigation.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information can contact Elkhart police at 574-295-7070 or Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.
