The LGBTQ Center in South Bend is hosting a panel discussion on a possible hate crime law in Indiana after the murder of a gay, black veteran in South Bend.
Jodie Henderson was beaten to death in January. His body was found near a parked SUV in the 1200 block of Sorin Street. The man accused of killing him, Jabreeh Cash Davis-Martin, allegedly told a witness that he had killed a gay man who hit on him and was bragging about it, WNDU reported.

Davis-Martin was charged with murder in Henderson’s death. He will not face hate crime charges because Indiana is one of five states in the U.S. without hate crime legislation.
The panel discussion on proposing hate crime legislation in Indiana is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the Civil Rights Heritage Center, 1040 W. Washington St., South Bend.
