Free public WiFi is now available at two community centers in South Bend.

The city is now offering the internet service at the Charles Black Recreation Center and the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, Mayor Pete Buttigieg‘s office announced Wednesday.

“The internet will now be available to students, seniors, and others using these community centers on South Bend’s west side,” city spokeswoman Kara Kelly said.

This comes after the city of South Bend introduced free WiFi to the downtown area in May.

“Closing the digital divide and providing free public wi-fi in South Bend is essential,” Buttigieg said back in May. “Internet access is not a luxury, but a necessity, for education and economic opportunity. Our goal is to strengthen and expand our public network to reach more families and businesses to create an even more connected community.”
