Elkhart man sentenced to 180 months for drug trafficking

An Elkhart man was sentenced in federal court for distribution of controlled substances and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

Roman Olvera, 29, Indiana was sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment and 4 years of supervised release, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

It was in September of 2015, Olvera distributed heroin and marijuana to another person, according to court documents.

Olvera admitted to carrying a firearm to protect himself from being robbed of drugs or proceeds during the transaction. When arrested on February, 2016, Olvera had approximately 114 grams of methamphetamine in his possession, the court documents state.

This case was prosecuted as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
