GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP) — A church bus driver who allegedly used cocaine before a crash near Indianapolis that killed a 6-year-old boy and injured 11 other people has been sentenced to three years in prison.
WISH-TV reports a judge also sentenced 54-year-old Charles Goodman of Chicago to three years on probation Wednesday following his convictions last month on charges of driving while intoxicated and with a suspended license. A jury acquitted him of reckless homicide.
Goodman was driving a group from Gary’s St. Jude Deliverance Center to a religious convention in Ohio in July 2015 when the 15-passenger bus went out of control, left Interstate 70, struck some trees and overturned. The crash killed Jacob Williams of Gary. Goodman broke his arm and jaw.
