A Goshen woman is facing an operating while intoxicated charge after a crash in Wakarusa left one passenger with critical injuries.

Police say the 21-year-old was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on Waterford Street Sunday evening when she attempted to turn onto Indiana Avenue, drove off the road and hit a tree.

A 27-year-old Elkhart woman suffered a massive head injury and was taken to Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Another passenger was also hospitalized.

Police say the driver failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of point two-six-one. She is expected to be jailed on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing catastrophic bodily injury following medical clearance.
