Healing from last month’s historic flooding in South Bend will continue with new funding.

The South Bend Common Council has agreed to appropriate an extra $500,000 out of the county option income tax to help pay for infrastructure repairs, according to the South Bend Tribune.

Last week, the Common Council learned that’s about how much damage there was to streets, culverts, basins, and spillways. With the funds approved, emergency repairs can now take place on Chippewa Ave., Ireland Rd., Randolph St., and Fox St.

The city is seeking an insurance reimbursement for the damage.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Small Business Administration has approved 26 home and business disaster loans in the region. The loans total $1.24 million, according to the South Bend Tribune.

If you live in St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaPorte, Marshall, and Starke Counties in Indiana, along with Berrien and Cass Counties in Michigan, you can still apply for a disaster loan.
