An Allen County Commissioner is looking for a way to cut down the time it takes to send out emergency alerts.
Nelson Peters tells 21 Alive it took too long to send out an Amber Alert for Rene Pasztor and Liliana Hernandez, the two children abducted by their mother last week. It took six hours before an Amber Alert was sent statewide.
He proposes a plan to fund computer software that will get alerts out faster. It also gives emergency crews more authority. The program allows for faster alerts to radio, TV and cell phones.
Peters will propose the improvements to the Consolidated Communications Partnership later this month. It’s estimated to cost around $40,000.
