Stolen car fished out of St. Joseph River in Elkhart

(Same Householder/Elkhart Truth)

Crews were busy Monday afternoon removing a car from the river that had been stolen from an Elkhart apartment complex Friday.

A fisherman spotted the car on the St. Joseph River between McNaughton Park and the Nappanee Street bridge. It’s believed the car likely was dumped from a McNaughton Park boat ramp, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Dive teams searched the vehicle Saturday afternoon and determined no one was inside. Then, they traced the vehicle back to an owner at Autumn Court Apartments, who reported it stolen shortly after midnight that morning.

Moore’s Towing of Elkhart pulled the car up out of the water from the Nappanee Street bridge using a heavy duty wrecker.

It’s unknown who stole the vehicle.
