Notre Dame creates first nationwide database of protests

The University of Notre Dame has created a first-of-its-kind protest database that paints a more complete picture of events.

A team led by associate professor of sociology Kraig Beyerlein created a nationally representative sample of protest events, according to the university website.

Their study looks at protests in the US between the summer of 2012, as well as the summer of 2011. Their study including large-scale events held by Jon Stewart and Glenn Beck.

The National Study of Protest Events allows researchers to answer previously unknown questions about the events. In turn, this opens doors for more discoveries in the arenas of politics and movements.

Much of the material in the study came from the firsthand accounts of participants.
