Elkhart woman steals a car, but leaves ID inside for police to discover

A woman who stole a car, then abandoned it, made it easy for police to track her down.

That’s because she left her ID in the stolen vehicle, according to ABC 57.

The Chrysler 300 went missing from Dubail Street on Saturday when the victim went back into her house while warming up the car. Police say the car was found about an hour later at the Kroger store on Miami Street.

Inside the vehicle, police found a purse and I.D. that belonged to the suspect. Soon after, they spotted Jodi Cavinder walking along Miami Street.

Police say not only did she admit to the theft, she also confessed to stealing another vehicle last Monday. In that case, a resident on 26th Street had also started her car to warm it up and returned inside before it was taken.
