Outgoing Congressman Marlin Stutzman may be target of ethics investigation

A congressman from LaGrange County is under scrutiny from the U.S. House Ethics Committee.

A press release from the committee states that it is reviewing a complaint about Representative Marlin Stutzman, alleging that he took campaign funds for personal use.

The Office of Congressional Ethics found that there was a “substantial reason to believe” that the Republican from Howe used more than $1,500 in campaign funds to cover the costs for a personal family trip to California in Aug. 2015.

Stutzman repaid his campaign for the trip, adding that he was attending campaign meetings on the trip and called the OCE’s report “absurd.”

He leaves office on Jan. 2, 2017.
