They took advantage of a compassionate woman.

LaPorte County deputies were called to a home in Trail Creek at around 3:50 p.m. Sunday on a report of a strong arm robbery.

The 88-year-old woman told police that two white men offered to clear her driveway of snow and spread salt while also requesting shelter because they were cold. While one suspect distracted the elderly woman, the other stole a jewelry box and silver coins from the woman’s bedroom, according to police.

The woman was not hurt. The suspects were driving a white truck with a silver tool box in the bed of the truck. One man was described as being about 5’8 and the other being shorter than that. It’s unknown where they were heading afterwards.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Trail Creek Police at 219-879-8173.
