Niles electricity rate hike discussed in city council meeting

If you live in Niles, get ready for a slight bump in the price of electricity.

A rate increase has been expected, but there is still some debate about who will have the lowest rates, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The Niles City Administrator Richard Huff says that he introduced plans for a 5.2-percent electric rate increase at this week’s Niles City Council meeting. He said he plans to come back to the council with specifics about the proposed new rates in January or February.

The last city electric rate hike came in 2015 in Niles. In part, the hike is being explained as covering the cost of infrastructure.
