Dog dies in Elkhart house fire Monday

One dog survived but another died in a house fire Monday afternoon in Elkhart.

Firefighters responded to the burning home on 6th St. between Lexington Ave. and Jefferson St. around 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to The Elkhart Truth.

No one was in the home and the flames were knocked down in about 30 minutes. One dog was rescued by firefighters but a second was found dead in the home later.

The homeowner was just arriving home from work when the fire broke out and the cause remains under investigation.
