Police call regarding drug use leads to arrests on felony child neglect charges

A young man and woman have been arrested on preliminary charges of felony child neglect after police were called to a home on the report of possible drug use.

Deputies with The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department were called to an apartment in the 30000 block of Riverbend Circle in order to check on the welfare of a male subject who they say had ingested LSD.

During the investigation, Aaron Evans, 18, was found to be severely intoxicated on LSD and also in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to a report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers found that there was an infant child in the residence and discovered that the living conditions were dangerous for the child to live in, the sheriff’s department report stated.

The child’s mother, Elizabeth Shoulders, 18, was arrested for felony neglect of a dependent.

Evans was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement, neglect of a dependent, and felony battery on a fire fighter and police officer.

Both Evans and Shoulders were taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
