Accused murderer Amber Pasztor’s trial date has been delayed once again, but this time, it could be a while before a new date is set.
Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker agreed with her public defenders Thursday that she will likely not be found competent to stand after two medical evaluations, according to the Elkhart Truth.
“There is some definite concern for the depth of issues surrounding her mental health,” Becker told Elkhart Circuit Court Judge Michael Christofeno. “At this point, the state believes the court could have her committed to Logansport mental hospital.”
Both attorneys have requested a third exam, and that forced Judge Christofeno to postpone the March 20 trial date until after the results are in. He did acknowledge that Pasztor wants to move the case along and is ready to plead guilty to murdering her children, Liliana Hernandez and Rene Pasztor. However, he also acknowledged that she needs to be found competent first before the court can take that step forward, according to the Elkhart Truth.
If Paztor is committed to a mental hospital, it could take three to five years before she could be declared competent to stand trial, according to Becker.
Documents in her case, including recently released documents from the Department of Child Services, have been ordered sealed at least until an April 25 hearing.
