I&M to conduct aerial saw tree trimming

Indiana Michigan Power will trim trees around transmission power lines using a helicopter saw beginning Monday, March 27, and continuing for several weeks.

The work is routine maintenance to remove overhanging branches that can interfere with service reliability and are potential safety hazards, according to a news release from Indiana Michigan Power.

Trimming will take place, weather permitting, on Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on power lines from the Fort Wayne area to the Elkhart area, the news release stated.

The tree-trimming tool is suspended beneath a helicopter by a vertical boom that has multiple motor power saw blades attached. The aerial trimming is faster and more easily reaches areas away from roadways than traditional tree-trimming crews using ground equipment.
