Man, woman found dead in vehicle in Elkhart died of gunshot wounds to the head

The man and woman who were found dead inside a vehicle on Edgewood in Elkhart each died due to a single gunshot wound to the head. That’s the finding of autopsies that were conducted in Kalamazoo on Sunday, March 26.

The bodies of Susana Alvarez, 31, and Alberto Avelino, 38, were identified by family members. Both individuals resided in Elkhart, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators were sent to a vacant lot off of Edgewood, just after 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon checking the vehicle officers Avelino dead in the driver’s seat and Alvarez dead in the front passenger seat.

There is not a cause for concern for public safety, according to the sheriff’s department.
