Officers investigating child sexual abuse video circulating in LaPorte County

It’s one of the worst cases of “sex extortion” that officers in LaPorte County have seen.

LaPorte High School was informed Thursday of a video that depicted child sexual abuse. The video made its way through numerous social networking sites, including Facebook live, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

A “robo-call” was sent to parents informing them of the discovery. The investigation has now moved from stopping the video from circulating to finding out who filmed and shared the video in the first place.

Sheriff John Boyd says the family of the child in the video “have been victimized by a particularly heinous crime.”

Officials are asking the public “to refrain from jumping to conclusions in the matter and avoid the kind of speculation that can only further victimize the family and impede the investigation.”
