Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine may still have the title, but he doesn’t have the responsibilities.
The department released a statement Friday, saying Chief Deputy William Goshert has assumed “all daily operational decisions” for the department.
As for Rovenstine, he will “continue to fulfill his statutory requirements” of his position, meaning that all legal documents that need a signature and authorization still go through him.
Rovenstine pleaded guilty this week to an intimidation charge just minutes before his bribery and intimidation trial was set to begin. He’ll be formally sentenced on May 23.
Rovenstine was indicted last year on charges of accepting $40,000 to allow special privileges for a jail inmate and a visitor, including permitting unrecorded phone calls meant to hinder punishment of the inmate. The sheriff was accused of intimidating a Warsaw police detective who became suspicious of Rovenstine’s activities.
