Three people injured in crash on State Road 19 near Wakarusa

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash near Wakarusa.

The collision happened around 7:10 p.m. on Friday, April 21, on State Road 19 south of the roundabout at State Road 119, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

The collision happened when a pickup truck heading southbound on SR 19 traveled left of center and collided with a northbound SUV, the sheriff’s department reported.

After the crash, the driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck was airlifted to South Bend Memorial with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s department reported.

The driver and a passenger in the SUV were transported to Elkhart General Hospital for their injuries which included a laceration to a hand and rib pain.

The crash remains under investigation.
