As local leaders try to find a future for one historic building in South Bend, another has been sold to a buyer with a plan.
Indiana Landmarks Inc. sold the historic 1895 South Bend Remedy Building on 405 W. Washington St. to Senior Helpers, according to the South Bend Tribune.
Senior Helpers, who has an office two blocks away, will occupy the building and have agreed to maintain the exterior architectural character.
Meanwhile, Indiana Landmarks, which used to occupy the Remedy building, has moved to the 1885-era Kizer mansion on 801 W. Washington St. Money from the $350,000 sale of the Remedy building will go to masonry and roof repairs at the Kizer building, according to the agency.
The Remedy Building was formerly a laboratory and office for Albert H. Kelley’s patent medicine firm: the South Bend Remedy Co.
Meanwhile, city and county officials are trying to save the historic Lafayette Building.
