(95.3 MNC)

Police say an Angola woman has died after a pickup truck tire went through the windshield of her SUV while driving on a freeway.

The pickup lost a wheel Monday morning on northbound Interstate 465 in the Indianapolis area. The tire bounced over a median wall into the southbound lanes, where it hit the SUV. State police say the driver of the SUV, identified as Crystal Emerick, 43, of Angola, was taken to a hospital, where she died later Monday. Her passenger had what were described as minor injuries.

Police say a vehicle driven Chad Hockett, 27, of Indianapolis, was northbound on I-465 near the 49.9 mile marker when the rear left wheel fell off the vehicle.  Hockett remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash. However, investigators are still trying to find the cause of the wheel separating from the truck.
