by Michael Anderson, Times-Union

Charges are pending against a driver involved in a crash that killed two former Kosciusko County residents.

A car driven by a North Carolina man went left on center and struck a motorcycle driven by Rex Long. Long, 54, and his passenger, Cheryl Bays, 58, were killed in the collision.

Long, formerly of Mentone, and Bays, formerly of Warsaw, had moved to Maryville, Tenn.

The accident occurred at about 2:46 p.m. Wednesday on North Carolina State Road 294.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper W.J. Henning said his office is working with the district attorney in the case.

The couple were believed to be riding with four others from Mentone, who were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after debris from the collision struck their motorcycles.
