Portillo’s clears Mishawaka Common Council hurdle Wednesday

A popular Chicago restaurant is relishing the possibility of a location in Mishawaka.

Portillo’s was given the thumbs-up from the city’s Common Council on Wednesday. The Princess City would be the second Indiana location for Portillos, after Merrilville and a new location in Fishers opens.

An empty lot along Main Street near Cheddars is being considered for the location, and construction would begin later this summer if approved. The 9,000 square-foot space would employ up to 150 people and include two drive thru lines.

Portillo’s is known for hot dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches.
