A Michigan City officer investigating two separate shots fired calls ended up firing a shot of his own at someone speeding towards him.

Indiana State Police say it happened at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Pleasant Avenue. An officer who was impounding a vehicle from an earlier OWI, vehicle and foot pursuit noticed an SUV speeding towards him and another officer.

The SUV swerved all over the road, according to police. An officer fired at the vehicle, but it’s unknown if he hit the suspect, 29-year-old Merwin A. Coleman of LaPorte. That’s because Coleman had a graze wound to his arm that might have come from a shots fired call minutes earlier just a couple blocks up the street. Coleman was treated and released.

Michigan City police are investigating shots fired in that instance along with another report on Ridgeland Avenue. A home near Pleasant Avenue and Rose Street was hit by the officer’s gunfire. A car was damaged from one of the earlier shooting incidents. No other injuries were reported besides Coleman’s.
