A man is dead after a car hit his motorcycle on the west side of South Bend.

39-year-old Miguel Mayorga Garcia was traveling westbound on Sample St at Fairway St. at about 11:30 Saturday morning. South Bend police say, as he tried to cross Sample, he was hit by a Ford Focus, which had stopped at the stop sign on Fairway.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. The 21-year-old woman driving the Focus was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, according to the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT). The investigation continues.
