LaPorte woman arrested after crash on Indiana Toll Road

A LaPorte woman was placed under arrested after a single-vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road.

The collision happened around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, when Brittany Lockhart, 22, attempted to enter the westbound Toll Road from the Toll Plaza at State Road 9 in Howe, according to Indiana State Police.

Lockhart failed to safely negotiate a tight curve and instead, drove her vehicle southbound across the westbound lanes, into the median and across the eastbound lanes, according to a state police news release.

She then somehow made a u-turn and drove back north across the eastbound lanes before stopping in the median.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found Lockhart laying on the ground unconscious next to her vehicle, the state police report indicated.

A trooper was able to get Lockhart to regain consciousness and he also smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from her  breath, the report stated.

Further investigation revealed that Lockhart had been operating with a breath alcohol content almost three times the legal limit of .08% and that she had also been using a controlled substance earlier in the day.

Lockhart was transported to Parkview LaGrange Hospital with minor injuries before being released into custody.

She was  booked into the LaGrange County Jail on preliminary charges of Operating While Intoxicated, Greater than .15%, Class A Misdemeanor, Operating with a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance in the Body, Class C Misdemeanor and Operating a Vehicle with an Altered Interim License Plate, Class C Misdemeanor.
