Two severe crashes in Cass County result in one dead, one injured

A Cassopolis man was killed in a crash in Jefferson Township.

Cass County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Robinson Road south of Buffalo Lane on Friday afternoon. Their investigation showed a vehicle driven by 52-year-old Daniel Dolan lost control going around a curve on Robinson Road, crossed the center line and was struck broadside by a large grain hauling truck.

Dolan was pronounced dead at the scene. The 23-year-old Vandalia man driving the truck was not injured.

Also in Cass County over the weekend, deputies responded to a motorcycle crash at Pokagon Highway and Dailey Road Sunday afternoon.

Police say a 46 year-old Hobart man failed to yield the right of way to a motorcyclist just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The rider, a 56 year-old Niles man, laid the bike down and rolled several times. He was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and no details have been given about his condition.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash, but do NOT believe alcohol was involved. The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet.
