One of the railroads along a stretch of South Bend rail is apologizing for blowing its horns.
Norfolk Southern and Canadian National Railways have been blowing their horns along 11 railroad crossings on the east side because the city lost its “Quiet Zone” status. A deal was reached and the horns were to have been quieted on Monday, but some horns still blew anyway.
The South Bend Tribune reports that Norfolk Southern has apologized for the continued train horns and issued an edict to its engineers and conducters to stop blowing the horns no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday. Canadian National spokesmen claim their crews were ordered to stop the horns Monday.
If any trains violate the quiet zone order, you’re encouraged to file a report to the Federal Railroad Administration.
