Niles approves more medical marijuana facilities; Buchanan residents fight against them

One Berrien County town wants more medical marijuana facilities, but some residents of another Berrien County town want less.

The Niles City Council approved raising the limit of medical marijuana facilities that can set up shop in the city’s industrial park. WNDU reports that Monday night’s ruling means that limit now goes up to four facilities: two dispensaries and two production facilities.

Meanwhile, in Buchanan, the community was torn on a proposed medical marijuana dispensary at a shuttered video store on Front Street and Days Avenue Monday night.

The Harald-Palladium reports residents and some downtown business district owners and residents presented a petition against the business. Others spoke in favor of it.

The Buchanan City Council will discuss the matter further on Nov. 13.
