LaPorte County already seeing benefits of body scanner purchase

LaPorte County officials don’t have any buyers remorse over new equipment installed at the county jail.

In fact, they’re quite happy with it already. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office installed a full body scanner on Nov. 20. It’s designed to pick up items that are typically smuggled in…things like drugs, weapons, and in one case, tattoo equipment.

That last discovery was made this week, when the scanner found the equipment in a body cavity of a woman being transferred from Lake County to the LaPorte County jail. Before that, pills were found in the bra of a woman being processed at the jail within 48 hours of the scanner being installed.

The scanner cost the county $199,000.
