Mimmo’s Pizza in Mishawaka hopes to slice new legacy at former Bruno’s location

Bruno’s Pizza in Mishawaka is no more, but its legacy lives on the location’s new owner.

Mimmo’s Pizza opened Monday at its location across from the YMCA and Federated Media on Edison Road.

But you might be forgiven if you visit and still feel you’re in Bruno’s.

That’s because 32-year-old owner Blake Schirripa has actually ran that location when it was Bruno’s for six years. In fact, Schirripa tells the South Bend Tribune he started working at Bruno’s in high school, worked his way up to managing stores, and then bought into the franchise with the Edison Road location.

“Mimmo” is a nickname that his grandmother gave him. The logo of Schirripa riding a Vespa scooter is a nod to his grandfather, along with the location’s slogan “Mangia! Mangia!”, which is Italian for “Eat! Eat!”.

As for the pizza? Schirripa says it’s a family recipe. The choices range from traditional to exotic, thin or regular crust, 12 to 20 inches. Oh, and Schirripa says when you do visit, make sure to ask for “Mimmo’s seasoning”.
