UDPATE (Sun. 1 p.m.) The St. Joseph County Prosecutor has formally charged Torreny Fennessee with voluntary manslaughter. The prosecutor’s office issued the following statement regarding the charges:
Today the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Torreny Jordan Fennessee, 18, with voluntary manslaughter, a level 2 felony, with a firearm sentencing enhancement in the Jan. 11 shooting death of D’Angelo Jennings.
Probable cause was found. Defendant was ordered held without bond until his bail hearing and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail. Mr. Fennessee will appear before a magistrate for his arraignment and bail hearing at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
According to the police report, Fennessee shot Jennings after a fight over a girl.The shooting happened after the the two got into a fight over a girl. According to the report, Fennessee shot Jennings after Jennings threatened his child. Fennessee was arrested on Friday after police found him hiding in a crawlspace at a relative’s home.
ORIGINAL STORY: A man has been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a 17-year-old boy in South Bend.
Torreny Jordan Fennessee, 18, was arrested and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary suspicion of manslaughter, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police were called to the 1800 block of North Johnson Street in South Bend around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, where they found D’Angelo Jennings suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene.
