The City of South Bend is joining the long list of cities that are filing federal lawsuits against the manufacturers of opioids.
Dozens of cities and counties in Indiana are announcing their plans to sue the manufacturers and distributors of opioids, accusing them of contributing to the epidemic.
Tuesday, in his State of the City address, Mayor Pete Buttigieg made a short mention of taking the legal action. The South Bend Tribune reports that the city confirmed on Wednesday it is working with an outside law firm.
Marshall and LaPorte Counties have announced similar suits, and St. Joseph County is working on one, as well.
These legal actions are happening around the country, as local governments seek restitution for the increased costs of handling the opioid crisis.
