An arrest has been made in a nearly 10-year-old cold case murder in Elkhart.

On August 2, 2009, 26 year-old Drake Muncie was killed near his County Road home in the early morning hours. His wife and 3 year-old son were home at the time, as well. Investigators believe Muncie was shot after a fight broke out.

Elkhart County Prosecutor says Michael Smith has been arrested for the crime in Tennessee, and brought back to Indiana.

The arrest came because investigators recovered DNA from the scene that belonged to someone besides Muncie, though there’s no confirmation that’s what led to Smith’s arrest.

His trial is scheduled for September.
