A serious crash involving a South Bend Police vehicle and an SUV has turned fatal.

The crash blocked Western Avenue at Kaley at around 4:30 a.m. Friday because one of the drivers was entrapped. In fact, due to the investigation, the intersection is expected to remain closed for much of the day.

The St. Joseph County FACT team responded to the crash, and South Bend Police said their officer involved in the crash was taken to a hospital in serious condition with face and back injuries, but was released a short time later.

The family of 22-year-old Erica Flores, who was driving the SUV, has told ABC 57 that she had died as a result of her injuries.
