For the second time this week, our area saw a crash involving a vehicle and bicyclist.

The fatal crash happened around 7:30 Thursday morning on US 12, between Red Pine Lane and East Shore Drive. That’s near the American Legion in Edwardsburg.

The bicyclist has been identified as 50 year-old Taleena Smaltz, who died at the scene.

Police reported the bicyclist died shortly after the crash, and traffic was diverted from that section of 12 for more than an hour while crews worked the scene. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
