Ohio woman killed in toll road crash, Mishawaka and South Bend men injured

One person died and two others were injured in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road.

It happened just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when a white Honda passenger car, driven by Marie Besancon, 66, of Stryker, Ohio, was traveling westbound in the area of mile marker 115 when for an unknown reason, she crossed the center median and continued into the eastbound driving lane, according to Indiana State Police.

Her car then struck a black Honda passenger car driven by a 72-year-old Mishawaka man, state police reported.

Besancon was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaGrange County Coroner.

The Mishawaka man driving the other vehicle and his passenger, a 75-year-old man from South Bend, were taken via medical helicopter to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The circumstances that led to the crash remain under investigation.
