Indiana regional food banks share state funding

Eleven food banks around Indiana received a share of $300,000 in state funding Wednesday.

The group Feeding Indiana’s Hungry says 1 in 7 Hoosiers is food insecure.

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch says the funding comes from the state’s Department of Agriculture, and was provided by the State Legislature as part of the 2019 biennial budget.

Around a tenth of the funding — about $29,000 — was given to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.

In 2018 the regional food banks in around the state distributed nearly 78 million pounds of food and other necessities in all 92 counties.
