Correctional officer arrested, suspected of drug trafficking at Westville prison

A correctional officer at the state prison in Westville was arrested for allegedly trying to traffic drugs into the prison.

Investigators developed information which led them to believe that Dennis Cousins, 27, was going to try to to traffic drugs during his shift on Friday, Dec. 13.

During the investigation, the drug Suboxone was recovered, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Cousins was arrested, and taken to the LaPorte County Jail on preliminary charges of  Trafficking a Controlled Substance, Bribery and Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance.

Cousins has been employed by the Westville Correctional Facility since June of 2019.

He is currently on unpaid suspension.
