Trash thrown at Benton Harbor cheerleaders after game in Battle Creek

A rivalry between Benton Harbor High School and Battle Creek Central turned ugly last week.

Fans of the Battle Creek team, which had lost Tuesday night’s boys basketball game, allegedly attacked the Benton Harbor cheerleading team while the girls were on their way back to their bus.

The Herald-Palladium reports grown men pelted the cheerleaders with bottles and other trash when they stepped out of the school to walk to their bus. Some also grabbed at jewelry worn by the cheerleaders, many of who didn’t go to school the next day, according to their coach.

The situation is being investigated, and a report is pending from the Battle Creek Police Department.
