A former South Bend Washington football standout is a member of the new Super Bowl Champions.

Gehrig Dieter didn’t play in the game as his Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but the South Bend native did take the field twice this season for Kansas City on their way to the NFL title.

Dieter celebrated the win Sunday night with his teammates and tweeted a photo of himself kissing the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The South Bend Tribune reports that he was All-State as a senior at Washington in 2011, and set national and state records while at school. He runs a football camp in South Bend for area youth and played his college ball in Bowling Green, SMU and Alabama.
