Governor Eric Holcomb held a press conference Monday afternoon, announcing the first death from COVID-19 in the state.

The patient was said to have been a 60 year-old high-risk patient in Marion County with underlying health issues. No additional details have been released. The patient’s spouse is also infected, and due to isolation they were only able to communicate with each other through an iPad at the time of death.

Marion County is said to be experiencing “community spread” of the virus, meaning new infected cases cannot be traced to an established diagnosed patient.

More test kits are expected to arrive in Indiana soon, according to health officials.

Governor Holcomb said “You may think we are overreacting. We are not. We are at war with coronavirus.” He added a belief that a surge in patients in coming.
