South Bend’s mayor extends non-essential travel advisory

South Bend Mayor James Mueller has extended the advisory for non-essential travel until May 11th.

Mayor Mueller says he’s extending the local advisory to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in the city, especially until the state’s new testing and contact tracing capacity are in place.

The advisory states that travel is allowed for essential functions like work, groceries and restaurants, pharmacies and other medical necessities, banking, and child care needs. He also encouraged “physically distant” outdoor activity.

Last week Governor Holcomb said he would be gradually reopening the state. Mueller said he would have preferred to see the state to go in a different direction to contain the virus, and was happy to see St. Joseph County issue a face mask order Sunday.
