Army Corps of Engineers to help St. Joseph curb some erosion trouble

Just about every year the Corps shows up in St. Joseph to dredge the harbor and make sure there is enough depth for boats to get through. This year they will be doing a little bit extra to add some more beach space for the city.

City Manager John Hodgson tells WSBT that the city will pay $60,000 to have the sand dredged up and placed along Park Street down to Lions Park Beach. For now the 6,000 cubic yards of extra material will only provide temporary relief, and a lot more would be needed to completely restore their shoreline.

The city has had to take numerous mitigation steps to protect infrastructure along the beach as erosion has worsened.
