Michigan softened its COVID-19 rules for restaurants this week.

The state health department made the change one day after new contact tracing regulations were imposed on restaurants and bars on Monday.

On Tuesday, the department softened requirements for collecting the names and phone numbers of customers. The state’s new guidelines recommend — but do not require. –that dining establishments deny entry to customers who won’t provide contact information.

Michigan will also not hold restaurants and bars responsible for patrons who provide false information, and won’t require proof of I.D.
